Yes people will buy cleaned coins and no dont take them out of the slabs.Clean coins bring a lower value. But i would rather have a clean coin more than a dirty one u cant see much detail or anything.I really dont see why a clean coin would make that much difference.

I purchased 2 Trade dollars in China. 1 is 1797 and the other 1799. I have read that these did not start into circulation until the 1840's.
Guess I learned a lesson, even though I paid only 400RMB for both.

Any comments from anyone

I recently found a trade dollar after going through a box of my grandmothers and I was wondering if anyone know anything about it. It says R.S. Wiseman and Son and the date on it is 1914. It is in great condition and I have tried to look of some information on it and cannot find any. Could you tell me if anyone knows anything about it and is it worth anything? Thank you Terry Fisher

I recently purchased some high end coins and sent them in for authenication. However when they sent the coins back some of them were labeled genuine- cleaned. I spent a couple thousand dollars on them, what should I do with them? Should I take them out the holders to tone? should I sell them? Will anyone even want them? What should I do with them? If anyone has an idea or some answers please contact me, I would love to hear your ideas.

Does anyone know the weight, in grains, of a British Trade Dollar. All of these "sophisticated" articles etc. blah blah blah all around it, but no one says how big it was. It seems bigger than the Morgan - but it must have been smaller than the US trade dollar - we wanted a dollar to outcompete all the many similarly sized coins, esp. in the Orient.

So ... how big was the BTD?

Thanks
